At the 2016 Golden Goggles, USA Swimming’s premiere awards event, Katie Ledecky was named Female Swimmer of the Year. This is the fourth straight year in which Ledecky has taken home this award. Ledecky has now won 11 total Golden Goggles since she burst onto the national scene as a 15-year-old in 2012.
2016 was another banner year for Ledecky. She started it off by resetting her own World Record in the 800 freestyle at the Pro Swim Series in Austin. A few months later, at the Olympic Trials in Omaha, Ledecky qualified for the US Olympic Team in 3 individual events, and was named female swimmer of the meet. In Rio, Ledecky claimed Gold in the 200 free, 400 free, 800 free, and 4×200 free relay. She also lowered her own World Records in the 400 and 800 free and was a member of the American Record setting 4×100 free relay, which won the Silver medal.
NCAP was also represented at the Golden Goggles by Bruce Gemmell, a nominee for Coach of the Year.
